Painter Dan Hiveley
About
An abstract painter based in Royal Oak, Michigan. I have appeared in several group shows in San Diego, Baltimore, and Michigan. and had a one-man show at the now-defunct Neil Davis Gallery in Royal Oak in 2006. My works are in several private and corporate collections. After years of creating large abstract oils, I've transitioned to working smaller in Encaustic and Cold Wax and Oil on Wood Panels.

Artist Statement
How does the work make you feel? This is the question I have been asking myself for years now. To me , this question that I ask myself when viewing the artwork of my peer's takes on even greater meaning as I work in my own studio. In the words of Robert Motherwell "The game is not what things look like, the game is organizing states of feeling." I tend to work in two different mediums simultaneously.
I also tend to work on multiple series' at the same time. Sometimes an ambient abstract will morph into a geometric painting or it happens the other way around. The ambient abstracts feel like a release of energy into the atmosphere, while the more geometric paintings are for me an exercise in dealing with divided spaces and feel like the solving of a puzzle. Sometimes I will use collage mixing old print images along with different paper textures in an attempt to create relics that are frozen in wax. All or my work is done without pre-planning, and with each piece evolving intuitively until it reaches the state of feeling I find comfort in.
